Local Authority
Case Study: Endeavour House (Suffolk County Council)
A request from Bovis Lend Lease led to this particularly challenging project for Suffolk County Council at Endeavour House. We were asked to construct the structural timber walkways (below) and timber link bridges that formed the focal point of this visionary project beneath the massive glazed atrium roof.
After detailed consultation with a structural engineer we produced a design consisting of rolled hollow-section steel beams, spanned by timber joists, sandwiched between layers of plywood decking.
Given the obvious risk of injury from falls, M & S had to provide a comprehensive method statement and risk assesment, and carry out the work from harnesses.
The project clearly demonstrates that M & S can:
Meet challenging design requirements
Deliver quality results against a demanding specification
Comply with rigorous standards of health and safety

Local authority work accounts for a substantial part of our portfolio, and we have long experience in meeting its very particular requirements.
Many local authority developments demand very tight cost control - so our ability to source and supply materials at highly competitive prices is a clear advantage. Our supply chain management is built on a set of enduring relationships with key suppliers over many years, and ensures we can always deliver on time and within budget.
We have contributed to a wide range of new building projects including council offices, law courts and police stations. Our work here has included high quality joinery fit-outs providing doorsets, bespoke joinery items, and custom-built internal staircases.
Recently we have completed a number of important regeneration schemes, including significant upgrades to houses and flats. Often this means working in occupied premises where residents' concerns must come first. It is important, for example, to keep tight controls on noise while work is in progress. Typical works have included removing and replacing kitchens, entrance doors and windows.
